These Are The Most Popular Halloween Costumes That Everyone Wore The Year You Were Born

It's that time of year where we start to freak out about what to wear for Halloween, it's a big decision after all! For some inspiration, we decided to take a look back at all of the Halloween costumes in the last 25 years to see what was popular each year. Some of the costumes came as a surprise, others not so much. Also, we totally know that anybody born in 2015 definitely isn't reading this, but bear with us.


1991: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

91 Was a huge year for turtles fans.

1992: Catwoman.

Batman Returns brought on a whole slew of Catwoman costumes.



1993: Aladdin and Jasmine.

Disney's Aladdin came out in 1993 and flooded the streets with a ton of Aladdin and Jasmine costumes.


1994: Power Rangers.

It didn't matter which one you liked the best. In 94 the whole squad had to be a ranger.

1995: Sailor Moon.

95 was a big year for anime and Sailor Moon in particular.


1996: Ghostface.

Scream created an iconic costume that people still wear to this day.


1997: Batman.

With yet another batman movie coming out in 97 everyone was batman or batgirl.

1998: South Park Characters.

South Park was super popular. Particularly Cartman and Kenny.


1999: Britney Spears.

"...Baby One More Time" Was a huge hit that made lots of girls dress up like Catholic school-girls.


2000: Austin Powers.

Despite there being a few different Austin Powers movies that came out over the years, 2000 was a very popular year for the costume.


2001: Harry Potter

Obviously, anything to do with Harry Potter was a hit in 2001, and that included Halloween costumes. The streets were flooded with Harry and Hermione robes, wands, broomsticks, and circular glasses.

2002: Spider-Man.

Thanks to the Toby Maguire movies, Spider-Man was huge in 2002


2003: Captain Jack Sparrow.

Everybody had to be Captain Jack in 2003


2004: Paris Hilton.

Spider-Man costumes were back that year, but Paris Hilton costumes were huge for women as Paris was all over the tabloids at the time.


2005: Anything from Star Wars.

Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith meant an abundance Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan costumes that year.


2006: V from V For Vendetta.

The V costume with this mask was all you'd ever see in 2006.

2007: Hannah Montana.

Remember when Miley wasn't raunchy?


2008: The Joker.

Heath Ledger's Joker from The Dark Knight was and still is a huge Halloween hit.


2009: Edward Cullen.

Ugh Twilight...


2010: The Jersey Shore cast.

Seems like the costumes are getting worse at this point.


2011: Zombies.

The Walking dead saved us from another year of increasingly worsening costumes.


2012: Psy.

"Gangnam Style" pretty much took over the world in 2012 and brought back the terrible costume trend with a vengeance.


2013: Miley Cyrus.

Who could forget Miley's horrible VMA appearance? It inspired tons of costumes.

2014: Elsa.

Everybody had Frozen fever in 2014.


2015: The Left Shark.

Thanks to Katy Perry, the Halloween of 2015 was graced with Left Shark costumes.


2016 Prediction: Pokémon Go Trainer.

Our predictions for costumes this year will be a lot of people dressed up as their team color for Pokémon Go.

2016 Prediction 2: Harley Quinn

We'll also see a TON of Harley Quinn thanks to Suicide Squad.
