A woman sparked massive debate among parents after she insisted that a parent should ask for their child’s consent before changing their nappies.

Appearing on ITV’s This Morning show, a woman named Lottie Daley said she always lets her child know before changing their nappies or washing them.

Lottie Daley is a mom and a very good friend of singer Katy Perry’s ex-husband, Russell Brand shared her views with presenters Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes while discussing if tickling should be made illegal.

The debate came from her friend, Russell Brand, who said he would not hesitate to punch anyone who tried to tickle his daughter.

After the comedian’s statement, Daley sat down in an interview alongside Vanessa Feltz on This Morning and compared tickling a baby to changing their nappies.

“When you start learning about body autonomy and consent for our children when they become a bit older, we should be modelling this behaviour from birth, like letting your baby know you are changing its nappy,” she said on the show.

“I want her to know that it’s her body. It’s not a case of them saying ‘ye’s or ‘no,’ it’s modelling that repetition and a habit of checking in with your children and making sure they are happy with what you are doing with them…”

She told the TV presenters that whenever she washes her daughters, who are five and seven years old, she always asks for their permission before doing so.

“When I’m washing my daughters, who are a bit older, they are seven and five, when I’ve got to wash their bottoms, I do say, ‘Can mummy just wash your bottom?’ because sometimes you have to. And they say, ‘yes’ or ‘no.’”

When the hosts asked if she also asks for their consent before tickling them every single time, the mum-of-two replied,

“I asked my children, ‘Do you like tickling?’ and they said, ‘Yes.’ And I said, ‘Would you like it if someone else did it?’ and they said they would be scared… because it wasn’t me.”

“We need to rethink the wider issue of consent, it’s not just applicable to teenagers,” she continued. “It’s applicable from birth. I think we should start to ask those questions and when you look at the wider context, we need to.”

After listening to Lottie Daley’s views, Vanessa Feltz strongly disagreed with her and said people don’t tickle strangers’ babies and other children they don’t know. But when it comes to their own children, they shouldn’t need to ask for their permission for an innocent act of love as tickling or caressing them.

“You don’t tickle someone you don’t know or a child who doesn’t trust you… and start forcibly tickling. But it is the ultimate innocent love, care, fun, physical contact with a child you love and who loves you,” she said.

Agreeing with Vanessa, many fans of the show didn’t resonate well with Daley’s views on the matter and lashed out at the mum for her controversial opinions.

“ThisMorning discussing ‘should tickling children be made illegal’ what the hell has this world become. Next you won’t be able to pick up & cuddle your child! #worldsgonebloodymad” one wrote.

“This Lottie woman on # thismorning is irritating as hell. Can’t even tickle children these days, even if they love it…# pathetic,” said another.

“@thismorning @EamonnHolmes make tickling illegal!? Lottie needs to have a quiet word with herself!! If tickling becomes illegal, we may as well give up hope on humanity! Almost laughable! Lottie, go home and keep your head, morals and opinions to yourself! Daft! # worldsgonemad,” a third added.
